Pattern: Simple Crochet Flowers

Of course, my first pattern that I decide to share on here would be inspired while creating something for my beautiful little girl :)

I had an idea to crochet flowers, string them together and make garland to use at my daughter's 1st birthday, then move them to her room and hang from her closet or window. Since I already knew what colors I wanted, I went out and got the yarn, or in this case, 100% cotton. I chose the cotton because I felt that it would last longer and hold up better than your basic acrylic yarn.

Now, I needed a pattern! And boy, oh boy, did this become a task. After spending way too much time searching and testing small flower patterns with the cotton, I became discouraged. In the end, I came up with this simple flower by taking bits I liked from a couple of patterns and adding my own personal favorite techniques.

Materials

Let's start with a picture tutorial, then at the end, you can find the pattern written as a whole! :)

Tah - dah!! There it be! It's hard to resist making tons of these!

Pattern:
  • ch 5 - join with sl st to first ch and form a ring
  • ch 2 - 15 dc in ring - join with sl st to first dc - fasten off ONLY if you are doing two different colors
  • with a standing sc, join new color to any dc - 6 dc in next st - sk 1 - *sc - 6dc - sk 1 * repeat from * to * around - join to first sc - fasten off
  • weave in ends

That's it! Simple, easy and pretty! Just the way I like it! I've used basic crochet terminology so hopefully it is easy to understand. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Have fun making endless creations with these little flowers!!

Happy New Year!

Myself, my little family, blog and shop, would like to wish you a belated Merry Christmas and welcome you all to 2014!

Here's to a new year full of ambition, growth, love and many adventures!
My goals for 2014 are to expand the shop, become a better blogger (yet, again! I feel the failure at blogging lately and sharing what I have been working on, is due to the lack of having a proper desk/office area. I may need to work on that.), and enjoy many adventures with this little family of ours. We have plans of camping, exploring our surroundings, building a garden (CROSS YOUR FINGERS THAT THIS HAPPENS!) and much, much more.
I have already been planning little C's 1st birthday party in February! I am working towards a shabby chic butterfly theme that is 1 year old friendly. 'Excited',  is one way of explaining how much I am looking forward to this! Here is a sneak peek at some items I have started.

These colors!! How could you not love them?!?

I may have taken many pictures of these flowers.....

Here is a single flower so you can get a good look at it. I appreciate how simple the flower is and how fast it worked up. I am hoping to string them together to make some garland for around the tables or maybe a photo area. Then, she gets to keep them in her room :) Multi-functional!!

If all turns out well, I may add it to the shop!
I am also making her invitations and more decor/party favors for the girls and boys. My other crazy ideas are to make her cake and cupcakes. There will be practice cakes, of course..... All basic and simple, yet cute. Like I said, crazy ideas and the possibility of failure is likely. Wish me luck!

UPDATE 1/06/2014: You can now find the pattern for these flowers here!

The Newest Additions!!

To the shop, that is! Please help me in welcoming these lovely ladies to the Ambrosia's Creations Etsy shop!! They will be making their big debut soon and you get the first sneak peak!

After taking their pictures, it makes me sad to part with them..... and makes me want to make one (or two) for myself. This tends to be a regular occurrence with me, I make an item for the shop and end up either keeping it or making another one for myself.

I hope you love them as much as I do!

Once Upon A Time....

.... I was an avid blogger. Now, I am a mother of two and still can't seem to get in to the groove of things as much as I would like. Our daughter is now 8 months old and she is already my best friend. She is our last, so I am trying to soak it in as much as I can. Her big brother is her biggest fan who loves holding her and trying to make her laugh.

Here's she is!!

Let's not forget that today my oldest turns 4! Who knew time could fly so fast...... I love this little man and who he is becoming. His favorite thing to do is his lessons and playing with his sissy. Such a sweetheart!!

With my absence, I have been able to open up an Etsy shop, so please stop by and check it out!

I am working on new additions as we speak and will try to share them with you as I go along. Right now, I am sticking to thread work, scarves and some vintage patterns. Definitely loving how the vintage patterns are turning out and I am hoping that they will be a nice addition to the shops inventory. I am also excited to start doing some wood work and other crafty things for the kiddos that I will eventually make doubles of and add to the shop! Many exciting things in store!

I see that this blog is still get tons of views and that makes me extremely happy that my absence is missed and noticed :) Thank you all for taking the time to check out my journey, not only as an artist and seller, but as a mother too. I promise, I am back and working on many, many, many creations for you!

Baby Burp Cloths: Link to Tutorial

Thanks to the evil that is Chuck E. Cheese, the whole family got a nasty cold while attending a birthday party there. I voted not to go since Carson gets sick EVERY time, but the husband thought we should so he could have some fun. Trust me, a couple hours there is not worth the week of misery. Never again are we going there. I am just glad that I am over it before the arrival of our daughter who should make her great debut by next Friday at the latest!

Speaking of our little girl, I came across a wonderful tutorial via Pinterest for burp cloths. I figured I might as well give them a shot since I had leftover flannel from a rag quilt I made awhile back and being on a budget, it's better to create than spend money, right? You can find the tutorial here.

Butterflies have always been my favorite, so of course I would use it for our little girl :)

The burp cloths are basically two pieces of flannel sewn together. I used designs on one side and solids on the other. Below is what the front and back look like.

These were super simple to make! I don't have a serger, so I used a zig-zag stitch.

Another little project I created for her is this crocheted dress using left over yarn and embroidery thread for the butterflies. You can find the pattern for the dress here and the pattern for the butterflies here. This is definitely a piece that we are keeping forever.

I have a few more things on my 'to create' list for this little girl before her big arrival. Hopefully I can complete them all and still have time to share them with you!

For The Seahawks Fans!

Given that today is a big playoff game, I thought it would be a perfect time to share my recent creation for a Seahawk fan in my life. Do you have one in yours? I have a few and unfortunately we are not a Seahawk family, well, until my Uncle married one! (Love you, Aunt Karen!!) My husband is a Vikings fan, I have been a Jaguars fan since they were created and the rest of the family is mostly Raiders fans.

The story behind this creation started when my Dad visited and attended my sons 3rd birthday party, noticed all the crochet laying around the house and commented on how I should "knit him a sweater." Silly Dad, I crochet! Anyways, since I wasn't about to attempt to make a sweater, I decided that a blanket is just as warm and cozy. Not to mention, I made it in his favorite team colors, SEAHAWKS! I used the same ripple pattern from the exchange gift in my previous post and I think it turned out pretty good.

Gotta have that fierce green in there!

The whole sha-bang!

I don't think it turned out too bad and it's good for some team spirit! Hopefully he will like it.... and hopefully everyone is enjoying the big game right now (if you are a football fan, that is).

Another Crocheted Blanket!

Been absent again (naughty me!) and once this little bundle arrives, I am sure I will be absent for a little bit again. I constantly think about this blog, what to post/share and I just do not have the time/energy for it lately. This should all change in due time, please be patient with me :)

On to a positive note, I have a new creation to share with you. Well, not so much new since it was a White Elephant exchange gift for the family Christmas party, but like I said, I have had many ideas in the works for here and this is where I am going to start.

I have decided that making blankets is something I might do for awhile since they always seem to be such big hits. Plus, I like putting thought in to my gifts. In case you don't remember, here is the blanket I made for last years gift exchange.

This year, I took a different approach and decided not to follow a basic crochet pattern. I kind of made it up as I went a long. I knew that I wanted to do circles in squares and then stitch them together separately to created an edging to each square.

Here is the whole blanket. I literally finished it a few hours before the Christmas party!

Notice the raised stitches bordering each square?

Finished it with a basic scallop edging, because every blanket isn't complete without an edging :)

Like my usual self, I was worried the whole time about people liking it, the colors, the concept while I was creating this little masterpiece. Thankfully, it was enjoyed by all and the person who picked it already has a blanket I made for her in her home! You can see that one here.

If you are interested in the pattern I used to make this, please let me know and I can type it out in another post. Thank goodness I wrote it down! I have extra squares for a possible second blanket!
