Pattern: Simple Crochet Flowers

Of course, my first pattern that I decide to share on here would be inspired while creating something for my beautiful little girl :)

I had an idea to crochet flowers, string them together and make garland to use at my daughter's 1st birthday, then move them to her room and hang from her closet or window. Since I already knew what colors I wanted, I went out and got the yarn, or in this case, 100% cotton. I chose the cotton because I felt that it would last longer and hold up better than your basic acrylic yarn.

Now, I needed a pattern! And boy, oh boy, did this become a task. After spending way too much time searching and testing small flower patterns with the cotton, I became discouraged. In the end, I came up with this simple flower by taking bits I liked from a couple of patterns and adding my own personal favorite techniques.

Materials

Let's start with a picture tutorial, then at the end, you can find the pattern written as a whole! :)

Tah - dah!! There it be! It's hard to resist making tons of these!

Pattern:
  • ch 5 - join with sl st to first ch and form a ring
  • ch 2 - 15 dc in ring - join with sl st to first dc - fasten off ONLY if you are doing two different colors
  • with a standing sc, join new color to any dc - 6 dc in next st - sk 1 - *sc - 6dc - sk 1 * repeat from * to * around - join to first sc - fasten off
  • weave in ends

That's it! Simple, easy and pretty! Just the way I like it! I've used basic crochet terminology so hopefully it is easy to understand. If you have any questions, please let me know!

Have fun making endless creations with these little flowers!!

  1. thank you so much for your easy tutorial! I had one of these flowers from a friend that she was wanting me to duplicate, and I was making it waay harder than it actually is. I am now going to get me some cream and sugar, and make a bunch of these. She is doing chemo and wants these to pin on her black or white hats to add a splash of color. ps, I have used the lavender scented yarn before, and I LOVE it

    1. What a great idea! I just discovered the scented yarn and thought it was odd at first, but now I like it since it is making the rest of my stack of flowers smell good :) Best wishes for your friend, I hope she loves all her colorful flowers <3

  4. Beautiful, simple, gorgeous pattern - the idea of a garland is wonderful and will last for aaaages and will be so versatile when it comes to decorating like you said! I bet these flowers and the colours you've used would make a gorgeous blanket, though I blanche at the thought at how long that will take! Still might be worth a go ..? Or even a small shawl for you or even your daughter when she comes to her 2nd birthday :)

    1. The thought of a blanket did cross my mind, but quickly faded when I considered how long that would actually take. I may still attempt one... I do *love* the idea of a shawl though, or even a scarf in a softer fiber with lighter tones for winter this year!!!

Thank you so much for the wonderful idea and stopping by!

    1. Unfortunately, when I was doing my pattern search, I did not come upon this post. Thank you for sharing though, you can never have too many *free* flower patterns! :)
As well, there are a few things wrong with your accusations.
      1. Their pattern starts with a magic ring, mine with a chain and join; therefore, creating an open middle where the magic ring gives more of a closed appearance. I am familiar with both starting options and I chose a chain with join for the opening.
      2. Our first rounds are similar, however, a ch. 3 w/ 20 dc versus a ch 2 w/ 15 dc also makes a change in appearance, as well as size. Making the flower differ some more.
      3. My pattern has no sc round.
      4. Having already explained the variation in stitch count and appearance in #2, I feel no need to explain the petal round.

With all this being said, as our flowers have similarities, they are not the same. This is a free pattern, I am not selling it. Along with many flower patterns and any other designs that have basic stitches, there will be many variations that have similarites, yet, a different finished product. Granny squares are great examples.

I hope this address all of your concerns.

  7. Thank you for sharing!! I've had the same problem. There is almost too many choices out there and then I have trouble making up my mind! I go for simply, not just for time but I like the simple look, not over done, especially in garland, I've wanted to make garland for my home and gifts-and your colors would be are exactly what I buy and have along with using cotton. I make a similar flower but your size is much better! I plan on getting busy making flowers!! Thank you once again. I appreciate those if you who share free things to make!!
